Our
Public Health Contribution: Even more important is our
commitment to the dental health of our community. Many in
our community have no access to a dentist. With New York York
University College of Dentistry, we sponsor dental outreach
programs in Cabarete and surrounding communities, under a
contract between the University and the Department of Health
of the Dominican Republic.
Services
are provided by NYU faculty, students, and staff, free of
charge. Visiting participants are provided lodging at Cabarete
Palm Beach Condos/Studios. Owners, staff, and neighbors assist
in organization and daily operations, and guests offer their
support.
These
programs started in 1997. In twelve visits, more than 33,400
procedures have been performed. Some have saved lives, and
many have changed lives.
The
next outreach program is planned for November 2008.
